Episode 63: Consequences
Joe pulled the trigger quickly, anticipated the loud bang, and braced for the force of the shot. He hardly felt the recoil and the deafening sound, because he had done it so many times. Old Al Rossi was on the floor, blood ran down the side walk.
As Joe puts away the shotgun, he hears a loud "Freeze! Put your hands out of the window." He looks back in the mirror and sees a police squad car behind his car. One policeman is behind the steering wheel, the other policeman is outside the squad car taking cover behind the hood. Both have their guns out.
When did they pull up? Unknown to Joe, by coincidence, a police squad car was coming down the street just at that moment to arrest Mr. Rossi.
Now, instead of apprehending Al Rossi, the cops will be apprehending Joe. Based on Californian law of the period, Joe's life will be forfeit.
