Journal Entry - November 8 Revenant Stalker

The rain is a cold mist, and the neon signs are just bleeding colors on the wet concrete. It's quiet now, but the silence is thick and wrong. I haven't fired the shot yet, but the mission is already getting under my skin.

I'm perched high above the street, the scope cool against my cheek. I can feel the rhythm of my own breathing–slow, steady, non-existent. The city below is a grave, but something new is moving in it.

I saw it earlier, that Revenant Stalker silhouette. It's not a shambler. It's too tall, too unnatural, like a broken shadow that learned how to walk. It was in the building, but now it's out in the open, moving with that awful, gliding speed. It's got those long, wretched limbs. If I let it get close, it's over. This is a one-shot window.

I can hear its movement in the street audio–a subtle sloshing that doesn't fit the rain. Don't rush. Don't panic. That's the mantra. The wind is low. The sight is clear. I have the crosshairs centered on what passes for its head.

It's walking right toward the wreckage of the overturned car. That's my target marker. I'm taking the shot when it clears the hood. No hesitation. No mercy.

Breathe.

Wait for the shot.

It's coming.
