Log Entry 047 - Shadow Weave

The rain here hardly ever stops. It's less of a cleansing wash and more of a constant reminder of the city's grime. Today, the downpour matched the data streams I was pulling–a chaotic torrent.

I spent the first hour buried in the code, my neural interface hot against my skin. The raw data shards, pulled directly from the grid, floated inches above my palm, shimmering in the neon. The sheer volume was staggering, but I needed the full picture, every fragmented line of code. Information is the only currency that truly matters in this city, and I always pay in full.

Then came the call. The window of opportunity was closing faster than anticipated. I couldn't risk the run in civvies.

“Initiating upgrade protocol. Armor plates deploying. Threaded and sealed. Outfit reconfigured.” The familiar voice of the suit's OS was a steady counterpoint to the nervous spike in my adrenaline. The moment the segmented armor plates clicked into place, sealing me from the collarbone down, the shift was complete. The soft glow of the internal violet circuits pulsed against the matte black of the composite shell, not for show, but for active threat analysis and energy distribution. My face–exposed for a moment of necessary calibration–was quickly obscured as I drew the hood up. The darkness is a better shield than any poly-steel alloy.

Stepping out into the rain-slicked alley, the world narrowed down to the mission parameters: Move. Target. Retrieve. The heavy beat of my boots on the wet ferrocrete is the only sound I trust. The air is electric, thick with rain and anticipation.
